New Season's Neutrals

New Season's Neutrals

When discussing colour schemes with clients the word neutral often crops up in conversation and can often be mistaken by a client to mean a safe design choice or a boring colour, however I firmly believe they can make a statement in their own right.

A neutral colour can provide its own unique energy and can lift an interior to create a tranquil atmosphere. By choosing similar colours but contrasting prints and or patterns this can create a stimulating visual effect that will stay classic and not date.

Let us consider how we can personalise your colour scheme by adding metallic accents or natural materials which will instantly add a feeling of warmth.

Try twinning some pale colours with a strong feature colour, think pale blue combined with silver, or grey combined with chocolate, the combinations are endless.

Cherished Gold and Rose Quartz were both colours of the year in 2016 and remain popular for neutral colour schemes this year. The colours of the year for 2017 have moved on to a natural theme with beautiful blues and greens in Denim Drift from Dulux and Greenery from PANTONE,  a natural  neutral, that lends itself to many colour combinations.

As metallics continue to add that feel good factor into our homes, the earthy golds from last year and new naturals from this year complement them well, offering a touch of glamour in an authentic and personal way.

We have lots of colours on display in the showroom and a huge selection of doors so why not call in and discover your perfect colour scheme.

Blooming Great Tea Party

Blooming Great Tea Party web

Do You Have A Winning Cake Recipe?

We are very excited about this year’s Marie Curie Blooming Great Tea Party with Franke.

We have always enjoyed sharing the celebrity chef recipes with you and baking in the showroom but they have added an extra twist for 2017.  This year you can join in too as they have added a competition element.

You can submit your favourite cake recipe and if it is selected as the winner, it will be baked by Franke’s baking partner and distributed to all participating retailers to help raise money for Marie Curie. As well as having your recipe enjoyed across the nation, raising money for a great cause, the winning submission will win its creator a luxury champagne afternoon tea for two.

So what are you waiting for – if you have an old family recipe, or your own creative spin on a contemporary favourite, then send it to Franke before 3rd April 2017.

The Blooming Great Tea Party will take place in showrooms from 23rd to 25th June. Find all the details for how to enter here

Choose Your Supplier With Care

Choose Your Supplier With Care When Buying A New Kitchen

As spring approaches peoples thoughts turn to improving their homes.  As more new buyers hit the high street it follows that the number of customers that find themselves embroiled in a kitchen disaster rises.

It always saddens me to hear of such cases and one recent example left me angry that large companies can still get away with such shoddy service. In this age of immediate communications it is easier to share an unhappy experience and name and shame companies but it often does not help resolve the situation for the unfortunate homeowners.  The reality is that they still face a long period of stress and heartache to try and resolve their issues and get their money back.

Our experience over the years has shown that finding a reputable retailer with a solid reputation in the local community - one that you can research and see via testimonials and case studies - is the best way to avoid a kitchen disaster.

Many customers are still very surprised when they come to us, to find that pound for pound you get better value from one of our quality kitchens and a vastly superior service, than many national DIY alternatives.

At Modern Homes we will work with you to set a budget at the outset. Don’t be afraid to talk to us regarding your budget limitations, as designers we would prefer to have honest and open conversations about this as we do know some canny ways to shave costs, whilst still giving you the look and quality of kitchen you desire.

Your kitchen project will require a whole team of professionals to make it happen. We have worked hard to ensemble a fantastic team of quality tradesman we can call upon. From plasterers, plumbers, carpenters, tilers, decorators and many, many more so whatever your project involves we can usually help!

All of our team have worked with us for many years and maintain the same high standards that we insist upon in terms of quality and professionalism.

So please think carefully and wisely as to where you plan to spend your money this season.

Give us or your local independent specialist an opportunity to show you just how much they can offer - I know you will be surprised at the quality of products, commitment to service and how cost competitive they can be - Happy shopping!

Exciting New Homes Promotion

Homepack web

Exciting New Homes Promotion to Launch Soon

We are delighted to be part of a marketing initiative that aims to provide new home owners with help and advice when they move into their new home.

The HOPIE Home Pack is an informative pack containing details about local amenities, schools, healthcare providers, Warwickshire council information, as well as local and national businesses.  The pack will be presented to new homeowners following the completion of a property sale through the Estate Agents and will provide them with relevant information about their new town, advice about running their new home and connecting them with local products and services that are available to them.

This is such a great idea, especially as recent research shows that many families are moving into the Leamington Spa area from other places in the UK to take advantage of the fantastic local job opportunities with employees such as Jaguar Land Rover.

We are working on our contribution to the pack now - this will include vouchers for new customers when they purchase a kitchen, bathroom or bedroom from us.

Launch date is March this year so more news soon.

The HOPIE Home Pack Team said: ‘We are delighted to have Modern Home included in our packs.  As they have been trading for almost 50 years, to say they are absolute experts within their field is an understatement.  Couple this with the fantastic level of customer service, help and advice; Modern Homes are the perfect partner to recommend to new Home Owners in our Home Packs.’

How To Buy Your New Kitchen

How to Buy Your New Kitchen

A kitchen is for life not just for Christmas, so don't rush to your local DIY store to buy one  in the sales, the big discounts are not real - it is most likely that they have inflated their prices so they can give a "BIG DISCOUNT".

I have lost count of the number of times that a distraught customer has come into our showroom with a poorly thought out plan that will not work in their home.  Our experience over the years has shown that in this scenario, getting the sale becomes more important than the right kitchen design for you.  What  surprises many customers when they do come to us is, that more often than not, we can show that pound for pound you will get better value from one of our quality kitchens, designed just for you.

At Modern Homes we believe you should think about buying a kitchen as a journey with distinct stages which should not be rushed.  A good quality kitchen should last in the region of 20 years plus so it is worth spending the extra time in the planning stages to ensure that all the decisions made are the correct one’s for you.

Set your budget and don’t be afraid to talk to us regarding your budget limitations. As designers we would prefer to have honest and open conversations about this as we do know some canny ways to shave costs, whilst still giving you the look of kitchen you desire.

Your kitchen project will require a whole team of professionals to make it happen. We have worked hard to ensemble a fantastic team of quality tradesman we can call upon. From plasterers, plumbers, carpenters, tilers, decorators and many, many more so whatever your project involves we can usually help!

So please think carefully and wisely as to where you plan to spend your money over this festive season.  Give us or your local independent specialist an opportunity to show you just how much they can offer- I know you will be surprised at  just how cost competitive they can be- Happy shopping !

Metallics To Be Key Trend In 2017

Metallics To Be Key Trend In 2017

At Modern Homes it’s part of our job to stay on top of developments and trends. Customers value our advice and like to know what the market is offering when they are making their final choices.  For 2017, we can confidently predict that metallics are going to be huge, especially in the kitchen.

With the ability to transform the ordinary into the extra-ordinary, introducing this look is extremely easy, as there are so many ways to do it. From entire kitchen units, through to accessories – go bold for instant impact!

Kitchen Ranges
If you’re sold on the metallic look, then why not consider a Cucina Colore kitchen from renowned British Brand Mereway?  Copper, Bronze and Pearl have been firm favourites for some time.  All of these provide a warming, sophisticated glow that is easily incorporated into a design to add an element of understated, cool lux.

The latest additions to the metallic range of Russet and smoky Gun Metal, add a touch of bold styling and an urban edge to any kitchen design.

The striking Russet Metallic works will when teamed with a wood finish such as Natural Oak. Bringing in metallic as a bank of units or a run of high level cupboards is a great way to add drama, texture and contrast.

Make a bold design statement with an island in Copper and team with light wood furniture in the rest of the kitchen.

If adding metallic furniture is too bold, why not try adding an element of surprise via a splashback.  The more traditional alternative to tiles was always stainless steel but why not try a metal sheet in bronze, brass or copper.  These can be cut to size for a wonderfully sleek, no-join appearance. Choose from a high-shine reflective finish or a scratched and tarnished antique finish.

Appliances and Accessories
finally test the water by adding small hints of metallics in your appliances or accessories.  Kettles, toaster, cooking implements or even cookers and fridge-freezers could be metallic. How about a beaten-copper lampshade, or a gorgeous antique-look mirror in bronze? Perhaps some metallic tiles around the kitchen, or even on the floor?

We are certainly looking forward to adding Metallics to our designs next year - why not book an appointment today and look forward to a brighter 2017 in your kitchen.

Supply and Design Only - Tomlin

Supply & Design Only - Tomlin

A Modern Kitchen that is Stylish and Homely

When Ron and Wendy Tomlin came to Modern Homes, with a ‘design and supply only’ brief, we were more than happy to accommodate them. They loved our Mereway kitchens and we had just the units the couple were looking for.

After contacting a couple of other places in the name of market research, they selected us, thanks to our mixture of expertise and our approach to their job.

“We were impressed by Modern Homes’  ‘can do’ attitude,” says Wendy. “They gave us confidence that we were in good hands, so we were more than happy to proceed with our plans.”

The couple were in the process of completely modernising their home –  and having ripped out the original Hygena kitchen (which they subsequently managed to sell to a retro enthusiast!), they were left with a complete shell.

Wendy was keen to install a no-fuss kitchen that was modern, and slightly different from the ‘norm’. “I’ve never understood why people always opt for a hob above an oven,” she says. “If someone wants to get out a roast, and another person is stirring gravy on the hob, you end up in each other’s way. So I was absolutely definite about separating out the two.”

Tina at Modern Homes incorporated all of Wendy’s wishes, making a few helpful tweaks and suggestions along the way, like the installation of a couple of tall cupboards at one unusually-shaped end of the kitchen. These now serve as useful ‘office’ space for the computer.

As for the end result, Wendy and Ron are delighted. The overall look is of sleek, low surfaces, with a clean un-fussy style that also manages to be stylish and homely.

As a final thanks, we were delighted to see an online review from the family that said the following – what more could we ask?!

“Can highly recommend Modern Homes. The knowledge and experience of Tina and her team gave us the confidence to put the fitting of our new kitchen in their hands. Nothing was too much trouble and questions were dealt with promptly. Nice to work with a local family firm.”
